Seabridges:
Informatie:
Grandi Navi Veloci was founded in 1992 from the decision to introduce new-concept ships, capable of meeting the combined demands for the rapid transportation of passengers, vehicles and goods, with all the comfort and luxury of a cruise-ship, into the Mediterranean.
The Grandi Navi Veloci Chairman is Aldo Grimaldi, who founded Gruppo Grimaldi over 50 years ago, along with his brothers Guido, Luigi and Mario.
The Grandi Navi Veloci seafaring venture is a success story, backed-up by the serried deliveries of the most spectacular ships:
in 1993 the MS Majestic, the fleet's first ferry-cruise ship,
the MS Splendid in 1994,
the MS Fantastic in 1996,
the MS Excellent in 1998,
in 1999, the MS Excelsior and the MS Victory, purchased in Japan and refitted at Cantieri Mariotti in accordance with very high GNV standards.
the MS LA SUPERBA in 2002, a homage to the City of Genoa.
the MS LA SUPREMA in 2003
With the arrival of Majestic on the Genoa-Palermo route, the market smiled upon the revolutionary characteristics of this innovative carrier, just as it did for the Mediterranean mini-cruise formula, launched the following year with the MS Splendid, on the Genoa-Palermo-Tunis-Malta route, following a summer season spent on the Genoa-Porto Torres route.
Meanwhile, the company redoubled its efforts to promote this innovative product, particularly through high impact advertising campaigns, through trade fairs, both in Italy and abroad and by means of very shrewd policies with regard to travel agencies.
"On-line" navigation began in '96, with the website www.grimaldi.it while, again, in the same year, work commenced on the "jumboisation" of MS Splendid (a highly technical operation to increase the number of cabins and augment freight capacity).
In 1997 GNV (along with the entire Gruppo Grimaldi) was awarded the ISO 9002 Quality System certification - the first recognition of its kind for ferryboats in Italy - and began operating on the Livorno - Palermo route.
With the arrival of Excellent, the following year, a new route, Genoa-Olbia was inaugurated, a strategic section for the summer tourist trade, while with the MS Fantastic , the historic, international Genoa-Barcelona route was reopened.
The year concluded with the opening of the first Grandi Navi Veloci agency in Milan.
In '99, following the launch of the MS Excelsior, the flagship of the fleet, the MS Victory came into service in June, while in November Grandi Navi Veloci was listed on the MIBTEL (the Telematic section of the Italian Stock Exchange).
On 22nd March 2002, Grandi Navi Veloci once more set a milestone in the field of Mediterranean cruising when they unveiled the MS LA SUPERBA, a ship which, due to its technology and style, is known as the largest cruise-ferry ship in the world.
In 2003 Grandi Navi Veloci celebrated its tenth anniversary with the addition of another jewel in the crown of its fleet - the MS LA SUPREMA, delivered in the spring - and the opening of two new routes: its second international route, the Genoa-Tunis-(Malta)-Genoa route, bringing tourists and lovers of desert trails to the "gateway" to Africa all year round, and the Rome (Civitavecchia)-Palermo route.
In July 2004, the Grimaldi Family and the Permira Europe III private equity fund, one of the major, historical international private equity operators, joined in partnership for the development of a plan which will soon make Grandi Navi Veloci the Leading Mediterranean Cruise Company.
